Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
WIC is a national supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children. The program is available to help keep your family healthy and strong. In Winnebago County we are glad to have the WIC division working within our health department to support the needs of growing families when they need it most.
Mission Statement:
To safeguard the health of low to moderate-income women, infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk, by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating and referrals to health care.
Who qualifies for WIC?

- Pregnant women
- Postpartum mothers up to 6 months
- Breastfeeding mothers up to 1 year postpartum
- Infants and children up to age 5
- Fathers, guardians and foster parents may apply for WIC for their children.

What the WIC program provides:
- Healthy, Wholesome Foods:
- Women (pregnant and postpartum) and children receive dairy, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and iron rich foods.
- Infants, partially breastfed or non-breastfed, receive infant formula. Older infants receive cereals, fruits, and vegetables.
- WIC Approved Food Lists: English Booklet, Espanol Booklet
- Nutrition Education: WIC dieticians work with families to address healthy eating habits, infant feeding, dietary needs, food shopping and meal planning.
- Breastfeeding Support: WIC provides one-one-one breastfeeding support for mothers including breastfeeding peer counseling.
- Referrals: WIC can connect families to health and community services, resources and programs for needs such as prenatal health care, smoking cessation, water testing, Medicaid, FoodShare and Head Start. Resources for Pregnant Women & Families in Winnebago County

For peer breastfeeding support and assistance from a mom like you, please call or text Oshkosh: 920-765-4375 or Neenah: 920-580-7945. We currently have two breastfeeding peer counselors on staff:

How can a breastfeeding peer counselor help?
- Help women feel comfortable with breastfeeding
- Provide tips on how breastfeeding can work around a busy schedule
- Encouraging involvement of family and friends to make breastfeeding a success
- Help navigate workplace policy to make sure that returning to work is successful
