Lyme Disease

"Wisconsin's climate has become generally warmer and wetter in recent decades, and these changes in weather patterns can provide favorable conditions for ticks (pg. 8, Wisconsin EPHT, 2016)." Read more on pages 8 and 15 of Winnebago County's Environmental Public Health Tracking Report from DHS.

In recent years, the health department has seen an increased number of physicians testing for Lyme disease.  The health department follows up on individuals whose test results indicate they may have the disease.  The follow up is completed to obtain more information about the symptoms experienced and travel history.  This is completed to assist the Wisconsin Dept of Health and CDC in their assessment of the demographic, geographic, and seasonal distribution of Lyme disease to target prevention and control measures.
