The Winnebago County Land & Water Conservation Department (LWCD) offers equipment rental and supply sales to aid landowners who are planting trees in large quantities. We have tree planter equipment available to rent as well as tree planting spades, fertilizer tablets, generic gel (root dip), tree shelter tubes, and stakes available for purchase.
Looking for a local tree/shrub sale? Here are a couple options. Pre-orders usually happen in fall, with tree pick-up in April/May.
Local Tree Sale Information
- Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Annual Tree & Shrub Sale
- Trees/shrubs must be pre-ordered, open from September - March (or while supplies last)
- The minimum order is (a) a packet of at least 300 trees and/or shrubs, (b) 500 shrubs or (c) 1000 trees
- Trees/Shrubs are grown by the DNR's Griffith State Nursery
- Tree pick-up is coordinated by the Winnebago County Land & Water Dept. in partnership with the DNR. Orders will be available for pick-up in April/May (date TBD annually) from the James P Coughlin Building, 625 E County Road Y, Oshkosh
- Outagamie & Calumet County Land Conservation Tree & Shrub Sale
- All Tree & Shrubs are sold in Bundles of 25. Orders are limited to 12 bundles (300 seedlings).
- Pre-order opens in November
- Tree seedlings are ordered from nurseries that supply quality stock.
- Tree pick-up notifications will be sent in March, with pick-up happening in April
- Fond du Lac County Land Conservation Tree & Shrub Sale
- All Tree & Shrubs are sold in Bundles of 50 on a first-come, first-served basis.
- The tree sale forms become available late September/early October.
- Distribution of trees usually takes place in mid April

 | Truax Hand SeederThe “SEED SLINGER” (hand-operated model) is a broadcast seeder developed for surface broadcast application of native prairie grass and forb species as well as introduced grass and legume species. The Seed Sliger hopper features two seed compartments. The large compartment is for large, fluffy seeds such as big bluestem, little bluestem, Indian grass, sideoats grama, smooth bromegrass, the wheat grass species, etc. The second smaller compartment is for smaller, smooth, hard seed such as switchgrass, alfalfa, clover species, etc. Great for areas that are too small, too steep, or inaccessible for other types of seeding equipment.
